Researching Wave Energy in Spain

Animation description:

Michael Maniates' "Energy for the World" class visited a wave-powered electric plant and a technology research lab while the MV Explorer was docked in Spain.
Spain is among Europe's leaders in research and deployment of renewable energy systems for electricity generation. The visit to the Mutriku Wave Energy Plant run by the Basque Country Energy Agency proved to be surprisingly beautiful. The plant, incorporated into a breakwater, generates electricity from ocean waves. At Tecnalia in Bilbao the class explored technologies Europe is implementing to create smart electrical grids, and power vehicles through alternative means.
This video is narrated by two engineering students: Davita Heavener from Prairie View A&M University, and Eric MacBlane from the University of Virginia.
